Communications Coordinator

Kolot Chayeinu / Voices of Our Lives is a 29-years-strong, fast-growing, progressive unaffiliated Jewish congregation in Brooklyn, NY with over 450 households. OVERVIEW:
The Communications Coordinator will join Kolot at an exciting time for our growing congregation. This is a great opportunity to work with a diverse, engaged and passionate congregation, get a wide range of experience in non-profit work and influence the strategy of an organization's communications.
We are seeking a part-time Communications Coordinator to manage and execute Kolot’s digital identity and core communications as they relate to our members and the broader Brooklyn community. The ideal candidate will be a hard-working team player who is reliable, innovative, and possesses excellent communication, writing, online, and interpersonal skills.
This position reports to the Director of Development and Membership Engagement and will work closely with the Executive Director, Clergy, Director of Lifelong Learning and the Director of Justice and Equity.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Communications Strategy - Work closely with the Director of Development and Membership Engagement to develop an overall organizational communications strategy that incorporates e-mail, social media, web and print materials. Research how to improve the way that our communications work supports our programmatic and fundraising goals.
Branding - Ability to maintain, strengthen and expand Kolot’s written and visual identity, including creation of style guides to create more cohesive communications.
Website – Oversee and manage website content, including substance and lay-out, and increasing visibility of it among members and the community. Working knowledge of Squarespace and experience in web design preferred.
Graphic Design - Integrate text, graphics, photos, flyers and brochures to support Kolot’s programs and activities. Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop, Canva, or other graphic design programs strongly preferred.
Email Communications - Design, draft, produce and disseminate a variety of weekly e-newsletters for the synagogue and our school, as well as all special announcements. Overall operation of our email platform, including open rates and expansion, as well as creating targeted audiences for fundraising, expanding membership, and increasing member participation. Periodically work with staff and Board to write time-sensitive congregational communications. Experience with Mailchimp prefered.
Social Media Communications - Manage multiple social media outlets; creatively grow and expand Kolot’s social media presence. An ongoing familiarity with basic algorithm trends preferred.
Print Communication – Facilitates the drafting, editing, and printing of Kolot’s paper materials.
Program Support - Partner with programmatic staff so that event details and logistics are integrated into messaging and promotion of those programs.
Archives - Maintain and digitize Kolot’s archives - photos, papers, videos, old web pages.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Committed to Kolot’s values and mission. Strong working knowledge of the organized Jewish world, synagogue life, and the Jewish community a plus.
Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to quickly write effective text with a keen attention to detail.
At least two years of digital content/marketing experience with knowledge of various CMS and design experience.
Experience creating social media content and website management.
Ability to work well with different types of people.
Foresight to anticipate the needs of larger scale programs.
Ability and willingness to learn new skills based on the needs of the congregation.
Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously and pivot when necessary.
Comfortable in a collaborative work environment and ability to self-manage when working remotely.
Attention to details, creativity, sense of humor and proactive planner.
Volunteer and project management experience.
PAY: $35,000-$36,000, depending on experience / year for 25-28 hours / wk.
